Aquamatic were the first company to use a 'dual hydraulic drive system'. This is the fundamental difference between Aquamatic and the other safety cover systems that are available on the market today. A dual hydraulic system consists of two independent hydraulic motors, one to close the cover and another to open the cover. Having two independent motors is substantially more powerful therefore being able to cope with the 'drag factor' (see page 5) that is often associated with pools built in the UK.
Beware of other cover systems claiming to be a hydraulic system, many of them use only one motor incorporating a clutch/gear system that is prone to maintenance problems and lower torque performance.
Standard equipment on the Aquamatic Cover is the 'Travel Limit System' that incorporates pressure relief valves that will stop the cover when it meets an obstruction or comes to the end of its travel. When the cover touches the end of the pool it must stop. This creates fluid overpressure causing fluid to bypass back to a built-in reservoir which ceases to drive the hydraulic motors. This hydraulic system is unique to Aquamatic.
Every outdoor AQM cover has a built in rain water screen mesh. The mesh is welded into the PVC fabric material at the time of manufacture. The screen mesh allows surface water up to approx 0.75"/ 20mm to drain through the mesh back into the pool when the cover is retracted. Any leaves or debris that may be present will also be contained and easily removed.
Having this facility removes the necessity for the use of a cover pump every time it rains! However, if there is an excessive amount of water on the cover, a cover pump is supplied to enable this water to be removed. Throughout the winter period, we advise that a cover pump is used continuously to prevent water build up when the pool is generally not in use.
Note. All AQM covers that have a rain water removal system will have a cover length 2'/ 600mm longer than the pool size. This extra cover length is required to ensure, that the screen mesh is covering solid ground and not swimming pool water.
Invented by Aquamatic, the 'Leading Edge Slider System' consists of two Delrin sliders attached to the leading edge bar. The Delrin sliders slide in the track extrusion either side of the pool enabling the cover to open and shut freely, without jamming and closes the cover square every time.
The Slider System also protects the two front corners of the cover which take the full loading when covering the pool, if not protected this can result in the fabric tearing and a costly repair. Other competitive sliders use an inferior plunger type system that does not apply all the same pulling forces in the same place thus causing rotation forces on the slider, resulting in early wear and a costly repair.
'Cover treatment' is applied to the underside of the fabric material to reduce 'deck drag'. Deck drag is the result of water or condensation collecting on the underside of the cover material thus preventing free movement over hard surface areas such a paving or smooth coping stones when the cover is in operation.
Cover treatment is a result of many years experimentation with various types of mesh treatments. Aquamatic have their mesh extruded and formulated especially for their own cover system.
Cover treatment can also be applied for free form shaped pools, rectangle pools with step units either on the end or the side of the pool!
Cover treatment will also replace the need for installing expensive air systems previously used on free form shaped pools or rectangular pools with steps on the side i.e. large paved deck areas. Although, excessive wear on Sliders and End Stop Guides may arise on one side of the track system resulting in yearly replacement in some cases. These parts are relatively low cost and can be changed easily by your dealer.

Welded and stiched hemming (Exclusive) All Aquamatic safety covers are manufactured with welded and stitched hemmings. The hemming is initially lock-stitched and then welded to the fabric material for extra security. A unique method is used to prevent any of the stitching from being present on the underside of the material thus prevent any excess wear and tear. Along with the slider mechanism, the hemming plays a pivotal role in the running and security of a safety cover system.
A 'Manual Skew Adjustment' is an essential adjustment that is required for any safety cover system. Aquamatic guarantee that their cover systems will always 'close' squarely. However, when the cover is retracted into a fully 'open' position, it may be out of square by a few inches. This will normally correct itself after the cover has been opened and closed a few times. In the event that an adjustment is required, the end user simply adjusts the pitch of the roller tube by inserting a Screwdriver into the adjustment slots.
This adjustment is very easy to do and takes minutes on an Aquamatic cover system. There is no need to remove the cover or release the drive mechanism as is required on other systems!
Using the patented hydraulic dual-motor system eliminates mechanical linkages, brakes and clutches that are required to change the direction and motion of the cover. It has the least number of parts of any cover system, yet still has the full range of safety and convenience features:- 'a system that is unmatched throughout the industry'.
