Leicester Hospital hydrotherapy pool
We previously installed a new filtration system for a 40㎥ hydrotherapy pool at Leicester Hospital, to ensure the pool continues to exceed health and safety standards.
“Hospital patients use the pool five days a week, and often around 4-6 patients will be using it every hour” – John Cheek, MD Hydrospec
The solution was a Waterco SPDD1200 Nozzle Plate Filter with a 1.2m bed depth with Waterco Glass Pearl Media that can filter debris to an impressive 3 microns. This high-performance media is essential to guarantee high water quality and allow the pool to be cleaned more easily, with less disruption to daily use.
Our range of swimming pool filter systems
At Paramount, we supply a range of filters with different constructions and filtering media, all of which have been tested to the highest standards. In a past hospital pool installation, a Waterco filter was able to achieve a 22㎥/h/㎡ filtration rate to drastically cut down the time it took to complete backwashing for the pool.
Swimming pool equipment for healthcare facilities
Swimming pools in healthcare settings must be adequately filtered and heated to ensure proper quality of care for patients. Additional equipment, such as stainless steel fittings, may also be necessary to aid accessibility and safe use of the pool for all patients. If you have an existing pool at your facility that needs upgrading, we can arrange expert installations to improve heating, filtration, safety, and more.
FAQs
What is the law around swimming pool safety?
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) outlines that anyone in charge of a swimming pool has an obligation to ensure the safety of pool users and workers. This is largely governed by the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, although healthcare institutions may place additional requirements on pools to ensure the safety of patients.
What are the correct chlorine levels to prevent germs?
If pool chlorine levels are too low, it can lead to the spread of disease and infection. If they’re too high, this can also pose a risk for patients. The ideal total chlorine value in your pool is between 5-7 parts per million (ppm), but it will be safe to swim in as long as it is below 10ppm.
Will the swimming pool installation disrupt hospital operations?
The amount of time it takes to install a healthcare pool will depend on the size and type of pool, along with any considerations due to the layout of the premises. A professional pool installer will take all steps necessary to cause as little disruption as possible to healthcare operations and complete the installation quickly.
