Why Grade 316L?

The low carbon version of 316 is immune from sensitisation (grain boundary carbide precipitation). Thus it is extensively used in heavy gauge welded components (over about 6mm). The austenitic structure also gives these grades excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures. Compared to chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels, 316L stainless steel offers higher creep, stress to rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.

Marpiscine products are suitable for use in Salt Water Pools. However, they will not be responsible for any salt corrosion or staining issues. It is imperative that all pools are fully Earth Bonded and a Sacrificial Anode installed. Regular maintenance and salt dosages must be maintained within the manufacturers’ guidelines.

A number of our pool fittings are now available in Duplex stainless steel. Duplex steel has a high amount of chromium and a slight amount of nickel. It combines both austenitic (chromium-nickel) and ferritic (chromium only) molecular structures and offers a higher resistance to corrosion. Therefore it is recommended for use in desalination plants, marine and salt chlorinator applications. Duplex products are considerably higher in cost and manufactured to order.
