The PoolSolar Panel
EPDM is an elastomeric compound that is manufactured from from Ehtyleen Propyleen-Diene-Monomer (EPDM). These ingredients are synthesised to produce a product that exhibits a high degree of ozone, ultraviolet, weathering and abrasion resistance, and outstanding low temperature flexibility. These ingredients also contribute to resistance to acids, alkalis, and oxygenated solvents (i.e.ketones, esters, and alcohols).
EPDM performance
With over 1 billion square feet of EPDM membrane installed worldwide, EPDM has established itself as the membrane for all climatic conditions. This is supported by various laboratory studies and actual field installations. This excellent track record is the result of unique and unmatched physical characteristics:
- EPDM has superior resistance to UV (ultraviolet) radiationEPDM has unmatched resistance to thermal shock.
- EPDM exhibits superior resistance to cyclic fatigueEPDM has superior resistance to hail damage.
- EPDM will not become brittle and will not shatter due to low temperatures
- Environmentally friendly
EPDM is one of the most sustainable and environmental materials used today in the construction industry. Its excellent performance transfers to low life cycle costs and less impact on the environment. EPDM can be recycled into the manufacturing of other products and accessories, thus minimising the impact on landfills.
EPDM Longevity
With many EPDM installations exceeding 15 years of exposure in the field under various climatic conditions, none of the material tested has shown alarming signs of degradation. Even though it would be difficult to predict, studies have shown aged EPDM as having a potential life expectancy of 15 – 20 years!
Other Equipment
Booster Pump
In most situations your current filtration system has adequate pressure to supply water to the solar collector, normally up to 8m high. Your water flow pressure is very dependable on the power of the filtration pump, plumbing configuration etc.
If you are unsure about the necessity for a booster pump, try using your existing filtration first!
In the event that there is not enough water pressure you will need to invest in a booster pump and sun sensor (optional). The booster pump will require a water supply utilising the main drain suction line.
If a Booster Pump is to be installed on your solar system it is worth investing in a sun sensor that will enable you to gain the optimum heat energy available from the sun.
A sun sensor is an electronic thermostat that will operate the Booster Pump when solar heat is available. In the event that there is no solar heat e.g. after dusk the control sensor will turn off the Booster Pump.
