Automatic Pool Covers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you have an automatic pool cover for an inground pool?

Yes. An automatic cover for an inground pool is possible and is a great way to enhance the safety and heat retention of any existing pool.

How do you do automatic pool cover maintenance?

Maintaining an automatic pool cover is essential so it can function when it’s needed. Regular maintenance also helps ensure the cover lasts longer. We recommend taking the following maintenance actions for automatic pool covers every 1-2 weeks:

  • Remove water, leaves, and debris.
  • Inspect cover tracks.
  • Clean the housing.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions when opening and closing the cover.
  • Check for fabric wear and tear and check the condition of the hems on the fabric cover.
How does an automatic swimming pool cover work?

Just like other types of cover, automatic swimming pool covers create a barrier across the top of the pool that minimise evaporation and protect the pool. These pool covers are operated automatically using either a key switch, remote or a control panel. Fabric covers use a hydraulic motor. Slatted covers use a tubular motor (the motor is inside of the roller) that cover and retract the covering on demand.

How much electricity does an automatic pool cover use?

One of the trade-offs with an automatic pool compared to a manual one is the energy use that comes with it. However, this is very small, and any additional energy use attributed to the cover will likely be counteracted by energy savings due to heat retention. If you have an outdoor pool and live in a colder climate, you can expect to use the cover less often and, therefore, use less energy.
